Undrained strength of clay determined from simple shear test

The undrained shear strength of clay is an important parameter for the design embankments, shallow foundations, and pile foundations. Among various methods testing strength, simple essential when shearing mode soil surrounding similar to that in a test. This study employs series tests with Berkeley apparatus. Three reconstituted natural clays one artificial were tested range coefficients consolidation. influence factors, including sample pre-consolidation pressure, saturation back rate, height specimen, consolidation stress, lateral stress ratio, investigated tests. failure corresponding parameters are also examined. Based on test data set, models describing high plasticity developed compared normally consolidated clay. Good agreement between intact Onsoy observed allowance made coefficient undisturbed situ state.
